TheNELSON LAB

Crystallographers and synthetic chemists. We build electron-microscopy methods to see molecules, and reactive-intermediate chemistry to make them.

Seeing · Electron microscopy, MicroED, cryo-EM

Structural Chemistry

Utilizing transmission electron microscopes, the group determines molecular structures from small natural products to large biomolecules through real-space imaging, electron diffraction, automation, and data processing.

Principal Investigator

Hosea M. Nelson

Professor of Chemistry · Caltech

Hosea earned a B.S. in Chemistry from UC Berkeley and a Ph.D. from Caltech with Brian Stoltz, followed by postdoctoral training at UC Berkeley with F. Dean Toste. He joined UCLA in 2015 and returned to Caltech in 2021 as Professor of Chemistry. His lab develops new tools for small-molecule structural chemistry and reactivity-driven synthesis.
